Looking For A Pre Owned Vehicle Inspection

By Steven Young

Many car buyers when purchasing a second hand model may think that it is a straightforward process. There are some things to think about before you part with any money to ensure you are buying a reliable vehicle. If you find a used car that you want to buy you may need to search for a pre owned vehicle inspection beforehand.

When a vehicle has been used on the roads before, it will probably have suffered a failure, and may have been involved in an accident. The majority of car traders will check all of their models before advertising them for sale and fix any problems that arise. When you are spending a substantial amount of cash on a car it is well worth having it independently examined before completing the deal.

When you are looking for an inspector to check a potential purchase there are a few places to look. Many of the companies in Dallas, TX that specialize in these checks will advertise locally in phone listings and newspapers. Others may list their services online and this can be a good place to start. Motoring organizations and car clubs may also have an examiner available for you to hire.

After you have found a potential purchase you will need to contact an inspection company and arrange a day and time for them to come and examine the vehicle. They will accompany you to the showroom and carry out a very detailed inspection for mechanical and bodywork defects and complete a check list. The inspector will then take the car out for a short drive to check that it runs as it should and that brakes, suspension and steering are all good.

The prices charged by the company for checking cars will depend on a few things such as how far they have to travel and how many are to be examined. If there are 2 or 3 cars to be looked at then this will be a full days work and maybe costly. It is preferable to allow the inspector to get on with their work and you can discuss their reports when they have completed the checks.

If they spot any problems with the car, these will be highlighted on the check list, which you will have a copy of. You can then speak to the dealer and either negotiate a reduction in price or get them to fix the problems. If they dispute the findings of any inspections it is better to walk away and find another similar vehicle.

If your vehicle is being sold from a private home then some care is needed to avoid costly mistakes. The inspector should be hired to check that the car has not been stolen and the other mechanical inspections need to be done. Many buyers have taken a car back to a house after a problem has arisen to find that no one lives there and the property was just a place used to sell cars.

It should be noted that after the inspection has been done and you have purchased the car the company is not liable for any breakdowns. These checks are only to confirm that the vehicle is not stolen and is road worthy at the time of the inspection. If there are any problems shortly after the checks you will need to discuss these with the seller.
