Useful Information Regarding RHD Conversion Ford F150

By Timothy Scott

The process of converting vehicles from right-hand drive to left-hand drive is not a simple one and requires someone with a lot of expertise in this field. Armatures should not attempt to perform this process. Similarly, this process cannot be classified under DIY project and as such, cannot be performed at home in the garage. There are several safety hazards that are involved in trying to complete this process without an expert. Here are facts regarding RHD conversion Ford F150.

The conversion procedure involves numerous processes because several parts need to be replaced, repositioned, adjusted or changed. The brake cylinder, dashboard, steering wheel, firewall accessories and pedal assembly are some of the parts that are repositioned during the process. Doors, wiper mechanism and side mirrors also need to be adjusted. Although this sounds easy, the real job is usually very difficult and complicated.

The whole steering wheel with all the elements below it has to be completely dismantled when repositioning the steering wheel. Repositioning the steering wheel to the other side of the vehicle is the main objective of this process. This process should be conducted with a lot of care since there are other vehicle components that need to be modified as well. Steering system, the engine and braking system are some of them.

What follows the completion of the repositioning of the steering wheel is replacing the steering track. There are different components that make up the steering rack. Therefore, its replacement will also have some effects on other components like airbags. The process should be done carefully so as to prevent damaging the airbags. Airbags are normally fragile components and any little damage incurred will prevent them from functioning well.

The next component to be repositioned is the pedal assembly. Pedals have three mounts which must all be dismantled and removed in case the car is manually-driven. After being dismantled and removed, the mounts need to be reinstalled on the other side of the car. This process can be very difficult and time consuming.

Repositioning the master cylinder is another hard and time consuming task. The master cylinder plays a big role in the normal car operation. It is usually dismantled and then reinstalled on the other side of the car. The brakes may end up not working properly after conversion if a minor error is committed in the process. Driving such automobile can be very risky.

The cover that separates the engine bay from the passenger compartment is called the firewall. The firewall has several accessories, which include cables and wires, blower motor, and AC ducts. Accessing and repositioning these accessories to the left side of the car may require one to remove the engine first. Removing and returning the engine in its place correctly requires a lot of expertise.

The next process after all the steps named above have been concluded is the adjustment of doors, wide mirrors and wiper mechanisms. In some cars, the door controls are positioned on the right hand side and must be repositioned as well. Nevertheless, adjustment may not be required in situations where the door controls are found in the center of the vehicle.
