By Thomas Roberts

Having a motor to call your own is expensive, and a privilege. It is also very necessary for work and home commitments. So if you remember the day that you bought your vehicle brand new and how happy you were you'll also remember that you didn't think about the day you would part with your new set of wheels. But if your car is always off the road and you are constantly paying for repairs, this day has arrived and you will be saying to yourself today I'll scrap my car and buy a new one.

When your car is constantly letting you down all areas of your life will be affected. When your truck doesn't start in the morning for the school run your kids will be mad. When you can't go to the grocery store you will be left walking to a corner store that charges more. A car that sometimes starts and sometimes not is worse than no vehicle at all.

If you don't have a lot of money to buy a newer car you may cling onto the one you have for too long. You will be throwing money away each time you pay for repairs when you could be saving towards buying a new station wagon. But there is one bit of good news. Your vehicle is worth money for scrap. At a yard your broken vehicle will be weighed and you will be paid per ton of scrap metal.

So let's say that scrapping your truck really is the best idea. You could have it towed to your nearest yard, or your could try selling it for parts. Be aware that the value of your motor that you can find online by searching for make and model will be a value when the engine is in working order.

So let's say you have been offered a price online for you car. If you can't drive it to the place you are asked to, you would have to call a tow truck. On arrival you may find that you are offered less than the actual scrapping value. So, this is not a reliable method. Stripping your car however is a method that you could use.

Perhaps you have the time and a garage at home and you could start taking apart your car and selling it as pieces. One item that you should have no problem selling are the tires. Depending on the rim size if your treads have a lot of rubber left on you could get a couple of hundred dollars easily. Sometimes the amount of parts you can sell is luck. Say someone had an accident in an auto the same as yours and needs new doors, a bonnet, and hood. But, scrapping piece by piece is generally a long and drawn out affair.

So what if there is an attachment to your vehicle as you bought it brand new it is important not to follow your heart. Still you must stop spending money on repairs each month and start saving towards a vehicle that will be reliable for you and your family.

With the cash you make if you are scrapping your car, you can put down a deposit on a brand new one or alternatively put the money towards buying a second hand model. Remember an unreliable vehicle is worse than not having one at all, and there will come a day you will have to say goodbye to your beloved motor.
