Some Ideas On How To Junk A Car

By Martha Harris

One cannot help to notice the large number of abandoned cars in the suburbs, in parking lots and even along the highways. They not only make an ugly sight but whoever abandoned them broke the law. It is illegal to simply leave an unwanted vehicle, even if it is a complete wreck in a public place. It has to be disposed of properly and there are procedures for doing so. However, there are quite a few ways in which to junk a car.

When getting rid of a vehicle, even if it is a total wreck it is important to have the title deed to the vehicle. Without the title deed it is very difficult to dispose of cars, regardless of their condition or whether they are running or not. Disposing of a vehicle without having the title deed to that vehicle is a criminal offence. If the title deed is lost, a duplicate will have to be obtained.

One of the easiest and quickest ways in which to get rid of unwanted cars is to sell them to a junkyard. This is not the most profitable route, however. Junkyards do not pay much for such cars, even when they are still in running condition. It may be best to obtain offers from several junkyards before selling. Some may make better offers while others will offer next to nothing.

More money can be made by selling the parts and accessories of an unwanted vehicle piece by piece. Even total write offs have parts that still work and accessories that may be valuable. This will take longer and it may require some mechanical skill, but it will definitely earn much more cash than simply selling the whole vehicle.

Junkyards often make huge profits by repairing cars that they have bought for next to nothing and selling them. By making such repairs before selling an unwanted vehicle oneself it is possible to earn much more cash. It is not always necessary to spend a lot of money to get a vehicle back into good running condition. A good profit is almost always worth a small investment.

Another idea worth considering is to advertise to people that either enjoys building up scrap cars before selling them for a profit or private individuals that cannot afford to buy a car in any other way. These potential buyers are willing to spend time in restoring cars to a condition where they are fully roadworthy once more. If the unwanted car is very old, it may even be of interest to those collecting classic vehicles.

In some cases the owners of unwanted cars are not really interested in cash. They just want to get rid of it. There are interesting solutions. These cars can be turned into safe playground toys. Artists have used them very creatively. They can even be used to create safe havens for fish in certain areas. Schools teaching mechanics may also be grateful for a donation.

Unwanted vehicles should never be abandoned. They litter the scenery and besides, it is not legal to do so. Responsible citizens will take the trouble necessary to legally get rid of such cars and it is even possible to earn a little cash in the process.
