You can start with using your own car if you have one but not those vehicles that are trucks or SUVs. If you do not have one then you should wait until you could buy one or another option is to borrow or rent an appropriate vehicle. Any type can be used as long as it is mechanically sound and starting with a not so fast one is better because your progress may be faster.

Right preparation is simple, affordable and easy specially when using stock which is best for beginners. Just be sure that it has been maintained well through securely attaching the seats and seatbelts, fluids and belts are recent, wheels torqued and brakes flushed. Modifying parts is a money waster except when spent on brake pads and fluids.

Get a good helmet particularly when using stock vehicles because you will be needing and using it for thirty minutes without the chance of adjusting it. To know more regarding basic concepts and their explanations, read good books. Some ideas you will read may not have any sense at first but once you tried racing then they will.

Have plenty of rest, food and water days before and on the day itself of your first track event. Driving on a racetrack is mentally tiring specially if it is your first time so make sure you have not drank alcohol or abused any substance days before. Bring something to eat and drink on the track to keep your energy up.

Have realistic expectations by not expecting to be among the fastest drivers in the track with your first try. You are more than likely one of the slowest or even the slowest driver among them as it almost is impossible to be the fastest at first try. Just do the best you can and remain humble so you can use this an experience for improvement.

Attend an event first as a spectator or guest before as a competitor so you will have some ideas on the feel of these events before joining one. This would give you ideas also of the things you would want to buy or bring when your turn has arrived. It would be your way also of scouting events out if which of them is the best one to join as a beginner.

If you are financially well off and can afford higher class vehicles then consider having a private coach. Get one that have experience in dealing with the kind of cars you have. Working with the same person every time is also advantageous.
