The Most Famous Hollywood Legends Photos

By Matthew Butler

The home of the American cinema is a gold mine of beautiful photos that tell stories. A contributing factor could be the interesting subjects in the photographs. Hollywood is a place where the lights are as blinding as the fame. Iconic photographs give the public an idea of what these legends are like.

These photos may be controversial but very notable, regardless. The best black and whites come from the golden age of Hollywood legends photos. The photographs are famous not only for their composition, but usually because of the subject.

Marilyn Monroe is an icon that has been celebrated in pop culture even to this day. A famous snapshot taken while filming The Seven Year Itch has Monroe emerged from a theater in New York in Lexington Avenue. A breeze passed by lifting Monroes skirt while on lookers try to take a peak.

A famous portrait that also adorns the bedroom walls of almost every teenage girl is a portrait of Audrey Hepburn. This portrait is so iconic so much pop art is made referencing the photo. It is a shot of Hepburn from the torso up on her black dress, with a diamond necklace and a tiara adorning her hair on a bun, her right hand propping up her face and a cigarette holder on her left hand. This portrait was taken for the movie Breakfast at Tifannys

There is always an amazing relationship between subject and photographer. James Dean and Dennis Stock, for example. Stocks most famous picture of the young, rebellious actor is one with a cigarette in his mouth walking and hunched over trying to avoid the rain from getting on to his cigarette, probably. The photo is more famously called On Times Square.

Giant, a 1956 film, produced one a notable picture of an on screen couple that will be remembered by the world of cinema. The celebrated actress Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson were on a movie related photo shoot with Taylor being held by Hudson so close they almost kiss. This movie would later give Hudson an Academy Award nomination.

Having three legendary icons in one moment is nothing short of star studded. During first showing of How to Marry a Millionaire Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, famed for their short lived love story, happened to sit beside a jolly Marilyn Monroe. Luckily, a photographer was there to capture the moment for the rest of the world to see.

Fred Astaire the man of musical films. Everybody dame wanted to be his dance partner. His chemistry with Ginger Rogers made them a reputable pair which resulted to ten Hollywood musicals together. As famous portrait with the actor from movie in 1941 called You will Never Get Rich is one any fan can remember. A very charming Astaire was gripping his white bow tie, looking to his right with a smug smile.

These pictures of the golden age is a great way to go through the memory lane of cinema. Thanks to photographs we have a way to relive the beauty and elegance the golden age of American cinema has left even after its stars have passed on to the next life. These film legends will forever leave their mark in the world.
